What I did on my Summer Vacation

July 31, 2019

Today is the last day of my month-long break. Tomorrow, I go back to work researching a new novel. Unlike many people, I did not spend this vacation doing anything fun, like sitting in the sun or jetting to Italy or France. Instead, I did glamorous author-y things like:

Turned my daughter's old room from purple

 to green:

Cleaned out the garage (and threw out the copies of Bon Appetit that I had been saving since I'd first subscribed in 1981--EVERY SINGLE ISSUE):

Where I also found old lunchboxes of my daughters' containing the notes I used to send with them to grade school (where I found the time to do this, I don't know):

And after hitting the dump was so exhausted that I hung out at a local bar with this friendly neighbor:

I also steam-cleaned the carpet, did my taxes (from last year) and did various other vile tasks I'd been procrastinating. But I also found some time for fun.

Like going to the lavender farms in Sequim with my family:

And attending a wonderful author luncheon at Debbie Macomber's home, along with (standing l-r), Susan Anderson, me, Debbie Macomber, Jill Barnett, Christina Dodd (sitting) Kristin Hannah, Katherine Stone, Jayne Ann Krentz, Stella Cameron

Now, as all good things must, it's time for my break to end, and I have to say that the one good thing about taking a vacation that consists of not very many fun things (beyond a sense of accomplishment), is that I'm excited to get back to what I do best, which is working.
